Monitoring of Young People with Long Term Conditions

ximWELLBEING MONITORING AND EARLY WARNING OF WORSENING SYMPTOMS TO AVOID UNNECESSARY CLINICAL CONTACT AND ALLOW CHILDREN TO GET THE MOST OUT OF CHILDHOOD

xim – an award-winning healthcare technology company leading a project to make the lives of children and young people with long term conditions healthier and easier. With funding from the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) – an NHS initiative – we are developing software that can measure pulse, respiration rate, blood oxygen, blood pressure and heart rate variability using just the camera in a smartphone, tablet or laptop, i.e. without physical contact to any equipment!

The only requirement for our software to measure all of these clinical indicators is that the person being measured needs to have their forehead in view of the camera for 30 to 60 seconds. This could mean that the young person’s vital signs are taken automatically when they’re using their phone or tablet to play a game or do their homework. Or you could use your own phone whilst the young person is sitting watching the TV or having breakfast.

The history of readings, together with meta data such as weather conditions and pollution levels, will enable users and carers to spot patterns in the data that correspond to the symptoms of their condition and receive early warnings, for example of possible infection. The data could be accessible by healthcare professionals to enable them to better diagnose and monitor the condition of the young person.

As a parent, carer or healthcare professional responsible for a child or young person with one or more long term conditions, we invite you to complete this short survey. Your answers will help us make sure we are developing a product that delivers the outcomes most important to you and that you consider it to be excellent value for money.

Please click here to complete our survey – The survey should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete and your responses will remain anonymous unless you choose to give us your contact details at the end
