Medilink UK - Celebrating the UK's healthcare innovations

Pioneering healthcare companies from the UK had their outstanding achievements recognised at the Medilink UK National Technology Awards in Birmingham on 14 February 2007. The event, held at the MedTec Conference, saw an independent judging panel choose the best of the regional Medilink award winners for the following categories - Innovation, Growth in Sector, Business Start-Up, Export Achievement and Partnership with the NHS.
Winner of the Export award was Brandon Medical, who have developed international links dramatically since they started exporting in 1993; recently winning their largest ever contract with GE to supply every hospital in Sri Lanka with new operating theatre lights.
Aircraft Medical, creators of the McGrath Series 5 portable video laryngoscope – recognised to be the “most significant advancement in laryngoscope design since the 1940s” - picked up the Innovation award. The Business Start-Up award went to Metrasens, the leading supplier of innovative medical devices who moved from identifying a market opportunity to achieving its first eight sales of products within 15 months.
Leading manufacturer of precision pressings, Clamason Industries, won the Growth in Sector award who have rapidly developed since its restructure in 1990s; targeting the medical sector and creating a dedicated highly skilled workforce. The winner of the Partnership with the NHS award was Safe Surgery Systems, who worked with a local Foundation Trust, speciality clinicians and patients to create a system capable of combating medical errors and saving staff time.
Chairman of Medilink UK, Kevin Wilson, said: “It is tremendous that we have had so much interest and participation from our Medilink UK regions. The inaugural Medilink UK National Medical Technology Awards gives national recognition to the excellent work being carried out by companies throughout our regions and demonstrates that the medical technology community continues to contribute significantly to the UK economy.”
